Lagun village and surroundings

Lagun is a tranquil village about 15 to 18 miles from Willemstad. The locals are friendly and helpful.
You won’t find casino’s large hotels or disco’s in Lagun. It’s because of the peace and quiet and the beautiful nature that draws the people to stay in Lagun. This is what makes Lagun so special and we will do our best to keep the authenticity of Lagun from changing. We should not forget that we are guests in a bay that for a long time has been used by the locals. For example the bay is still used almost every day to give swimming lessons to schoolchildren.
We shouldn’t forget the fishermen who go out every day from Lagun and for most of these fishermen this is their only source of income. We would like to point out to our guests to treat this with respect as it is often overlooked.
For the busy nightlife you really do have to be in Willemstad.
Most of the houses along the cost are weekend houses. This means that in the weekend it gets a little busier when the owners come down.
All the beautiful beaches and bays are close by and you really should take the time to explore these yourself. In every apartment there is an information guide available where you will find all tourist information.

Shops

There is a Chinese and a small Toko (shop) where Misses Valks waives her scepter.
Two bigger supermarkets are a few miles down and just before Willemstad there is a very big supermarket where you can find all kinds of Western products.

Wine and Dine

In the village Westpunt, which is only a few miles from Lagun, you can have a great dinner at Rancho El Sobrino. This restaurant is run by Coen, who's Belgian. Don’t be afraid to order the 1 meter (yard) spare ribs, it’s very normal there.
Also in Westpunt you can find Janchies restaurant. You can go there to try out local dishes and fresh fish. The owner will welcome you with open arms and show you his menu in a very special way. How? You will just have to wait and see…

Every Sunday in Barber you can eat at the Inco Pincho Grill. Our good friend Axel runs this eating establishment and if you say you are our guest he will treat you like kings and you will get you everything you want.
If you have any questions about Curacao, do ask Axel. He will give you all the information you’ll need.
After dining at Axel’s you can enjoy the music at the Oasis Bar. This is only in a few miles down the road from Barber, close to the Christoffel Park. Our daughter Heleen plays the sax and plays regularly with the band. You must visit this place at least once, as it is romantic to dance outside under the stars on the beautiful rhythm of the Antillean music.
In Willemstad of course you can find all types restaurants. Also you can go ahead and visit any of the small “snacks” to get a quick little bite to eat. You will find these by the side of the road and are easy to recognize.

Beaches

We have steps running down to Playa Lagun beach from our apartments. There is a beach tent, use of the beach is free and is one of the favorites with the locals.
Playa Lagun is in between Santa Crux bay and Playa Jeremi. At Santa Cruz you can take a water taxi and get something to eat or drink.
The beautiful beaches of Knip are also close by; this is one of the most beautiful bays.
